Double Star Observatory

The Double Star Observatory

To learn more about an operational observatory, call to arrange a site visit at the Double Star Observatory. You may also browse the Observatory Construction page for information and pictures.

The Double Star Observatory is a 14' x 26' roll-off roof structure that is divided into a 14' x 18' observing area and a 14' x 8' control room. The observing area can hold up to four permanently mounted telescopes. All power in the observatory is 12v DC and is supplied from a central battery source. There are 12v DC outlets at each telescope position, with additional outlets in the control room. Lighting inside and outside the observatory is 12v DC green rope light. Roof open/close operation is via a closed loop pulley system that is manually operated to conserve battery resources.
